I wrote a couple articles about the Bluetooth Keyboard Setup with KeyPro Drivers. If you just jumping in see these previous articles listed from old to new.
We have had regular feedback from readers who have used the KeyPro drivers to setup Bluetooth portable keyboard on the Android and Blackberry platforms. The universal consensus seems to be that there are a couple of areas that catch people up. Reader Jeff Edwards points this out with his experience: [click to continue…]
If you are like me and have followed the recent coverage of the disaster in Haiti, you too may have wondered how you would fare in a similar situation. I am also reminded of the story a few weeks back of a couple who decided to test out the GPS system in their new car, followed its direction to roads better not traveled in the winter, and found themselves stranded until they were eventually able to get a cellphone call out and with 911GPS assistance, were found and rescued. Do you ever find yourself wishing that the sound from your Smartphone was just a little louder or have you needed to give your notebook PC a boost in volume when doing a presentation? I think we have all been there and in reality, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of solutions out there. [click to continue…]
This is one of the reasons we have smartphones with big screens, right? But what a bother to have to sit there and hold the angle just right, or keep it from sliding off the tray table if you lay it flat. So, probably just like you, I have searched for a workable method of solving this. Earlier this year, I purchased a contraption made out of plastic that you could fold into a stand for your Smartphone, Touch, etc. It held the screen at a reasonable angle, and as it had a rubberized feel, it didn’t slip too much. The other day my son came home from college and was asking me if I knew about the new charging thing that was wireless. I laughed and said that thing is the Powermat. I told him that I had looked at it but it is not ready for prime time as far as I am concerned. The reality is, this concept is what we have been dreaming about since we were kids. And looks like the guys over at Powermat were able to make it come true. The Powermat is 99.99 both from Best Buy and Powermat.com. The bottom line is this technology has to be built into devices! Having a need to purchase another device to make this work is not very compelling.
Here is a Review of the Powermat.

What’s stopping you? For me, the answer to that question is the keyboard. My current smartphone has a wonder large screen, but even with a slide-out keyboard, it is not conducive to complicated or lengthy text entry. Interestingly enough, I had the same problem with my last phone, a BlackBerry Storm from RIM. Sometime in the past year, I decided to solve that issue in a fashion that had worked (sort of, almost) for me in the past with Windows Mobile phones: use a Bluetooth Keyboard. At that time, I had bought the ThinkOutside Stowaway keyboard. What a marvelous piece of portable engineering.

I was at CMH (Columbus International Airport) yesterday. I broke out my computer, and plugged in, getting ready for my Southwest flight. Two great things happened
- Google provided free wireless, which was great, as Gate A4 at BWI Airport has a bad Verizon Signal, thus my EVDO card was SLOW.
- Southwest, as always, provides power in chairs and at tables for travelers.
Let me state that this is not going to end up as a rant about how airports need to provide power for travelers. Rather, I am going to talk about the loud talking business woman I had next to me that appeared to be talking into thin air.
Yep, you guessed it… the dang bluetooth headsets. I used one many years ago but I am back to wired headsets. In part I hate looking like the loud, idiot talking to myself. On the recommendation of a good friend of mine, I tried out the v-moda vide II headsets and have been using them ever since. I got them when I used the iPhone and they are just my favorite. The quality of the sound is just what I need and they last about a year of me beating them up before I have to replace them when a new pair.
Early on v-moda had a quality control issue and my headsets would break in 30-60 days. The return/exchange/warranty process with v-moda could not have been better. The company stands behind their product and has earned my business for many years to come. The mute/pause button on the headset works well with my Motorola Droid. The only negative I have come across is that I cannot disconnect calls from the headset. It also is great for my favorite pass time of listening to podcasts.
So to all of you business travelers out there, stop being the annoying loud mouth on the bluetooth wireless headset, and do us all a favor and get wired!
