I have been keeping an eye on the BlackBerry Playbook. The device seemed to be the only tablet that interested me. Well at least to the point I was considering buying one. Unfortunately, this latest information has just made me change my mind. There is a component called the BlackBerry Bridge that allows the Playbook to connect to your BlackBerry. Once Connected you can use BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Email and the BlackBerry Calendar. I was reading a review of the BlackBerry Bridge, when I stumbled across this setback. Joshua from bgr.com said
For the time being, Bridge will provide the PlayBook with all of its email, calendar, and BBM functionality — there are no stand-alone applications on the device. You read that correctly: without a BlackBerry on hand, you won’t be able to access any of your BlackBerry-specific messaging software
I hope that I am reading this wrong. I know that there are a lot of BlackBerry users, but why would RIM limit the device to just them? Maybe they will add an option for other messaging outside of BlackBerry. As it stands, I can no longer consider getting one. I am not saying for people with BlackBerrys not to get one. For you it makes sense. On the other hand, I am not switching to BlackBerry ever.
