iPhone and iPad Tethering

I struggle to believe this is worth reporting but a Swedish site Slashat.se reportedly emailed Steve Jobs asking a simple question “Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?” The response was simple “no” and it was sent from his iPhone.

First, who wants an iPad?  But lets suppose your one of those people that will buy the exact same thing you have today in a larger case.  Here are a couple suggestions.

1. Jailbreak your iPhone and use PDA Net to turn your iPhone into a WiFi hotspot
2. Use Connectify to connect share your internet connection with your PC
3. Get an Android Phone and Root the device. Just like a Jailbroken iPhone you can turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot
4. Use the built-in WiFi sharing option on your Mac to make your Mac a WiFi hotspot
5. Buy a Windows Mobile phone, there are at least 4 – 5 apps that allow the phone to become a WiFi hotspot
6. The PalmPre has built-in WiFi hotspot capabilities.

Now, in all seriousness, despite all the WiFi hotspot options maybe there is word slicing to be done here. Imagine this was the full statement “No, you cannot tether your iPad to your iPhone, because Apple will enable WiFi sharing on the iPhone, thus no tethering is required.” I am not saying that is the case, but Apple would be stupid to say yes because then no iPhone user would buy the 3G iPad.
