I get asked all the time how do you convert movies so you can watch them on your Zune HD, Blackberry Storm, iPhone, Android or add them to my home media center. I don’t want this blog post to be long winded rather step by step instructions as to how I convert movies. Unlike my buddy Chris I take a two step process in movie conversions. Additionally, I am approaching this from a Mac perspective. Not because I don’t use Windows, but because my Windows machines are busy all day and I have free cycles on my iMac when my kids are in school so I put that thing to work.

Thoughts from Rod

I hoped for something good and got an over-sized iPod Touch. I just cannot see buying this device without getting it to replace something else. I have a friend that wants to buy my MacBook Air, maybe I will part with that and pick one up. Actually, most likely not. This is a massive disappointment. Any tech outlet making excuses or trying to make you believe this POS is worth buying has lost their creditability.

When I dropped my iPhone to transition to the Blackberry Storm, I spent the first several months trying to find applications for the blackberry that gave me the same simplistic information I got on the iPhone. Even being 2 years removed from using the iPhone as my primary day to day phone, I still miss the built-in Calendar, Stocks, Weather, and Maps. They are so fundamentally simple most people often search for another program that provides richer information. Let me explain the aspects of each of these programs I like the most. I never fully understood the importance of the GMail account configured on your Android phone until I was talking to my friend at a party saturday night. His daughter was playing with his DROID connecting the dots on the home screen. He was unaware she had the phone and was continuously submitting bad passwords at the lock screen. If you are a traveler you have heard of TripIt. If not you should have. I have used TripIt and Worldmate on all of my trips over the last couple years. I have to say the services could not be easier to use.   [click to continue…]

YouTube Video Quality

I think everyone has seen the Verizon commercial that shows a high quality video playing on the Motorola Droid. The first thing that crossed my mind was I want that! So I started digging around to figure out how to do it. If you’re not a person that likes to dig into menus or sub menus, you may never find the option to change the YouTube app to display high quality video. I’ve done the work for you and now I am going to share my results along with a few more tips and tricks.

As I am sitting on the beach my brother-in-law was showing me the golf app he downloaded on his blackberry for our upcoming round of golf. I am not a believer that knowing my exact distance from the pin is remotely going to help my game but I am a geek and love new toys.

Auto Text is a feature on the Blackberry OS I really miss since moving to Android. I respond to about a hundred emails daily from my mobile device. Responses can be identical if not similar for a variety of reasons. For example [click to continue…]
