SlingPlayer Mobile, one of my favorite apps, has been around for quite some time. When it was released for the iPhone it was crippled by the fact that it could not run over the 3G network. Windows Phone had no issues. This was a great area for me to mock the iPhone but AT&T has now taken that away from me.
In a reversal of their decision AT&T has approved a new version of the SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone. In a quote from CEO Ralph de la Vega he said the app is now approved.
“Collaboration with developers like Sling Media ensures that all apps are optimized for our 3G network to conserve wireless spectrum and reduce the risk that an app will cause such extreme levels of congestion that they disrupt the experience of other wireless customers. Our focus continues to be on delivering the nation’s most advanced mobile broadband experience and giving our customers the widest possible array of mobile applications.”
For those who don’t know the SlingPlayer connects to your Slingbox which is basically a device that takes what ever is being outputted from your Satellite or Cable receiver and puts it over the internet to your Phone or Laptop. Simply put, you can watch your TV anywhere you have an internet connection.
There is no date when the new app will be available but for my windows mobile folks let’s hope they use this as an opportunity to update the now ugly interface on our Windows Mobile Phones.
