Android Deletes All Your SMS and MMS

by Rod on February 3, 2010

The error message is simple. Sorry! The application Messaging (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then all your SMS and MMS messages are deleted.

I suspect in some strange world this is a feature that helps the user clean up their phone, but my friend lost about 250 messages on her recent crash.  The earlier crash took out about 1,000 messages.  I have not had this issue, but a boat load of people are suffering from this pain on a regular basis.  Just another bug on a long list for Motorola and Verizon to fix.

YES I am still having this issue…I can’t seem to find any updates or support on the issue. Is it worth taking the phone back?

Let me give this a bit more research. If not return it.

Verizon did a system reset on my phone to “try” to fix the SMS delete issue..that by the way, they know nothing about and have never heard of before. Unfortunately, today my phone failed me again. Luck for me though, I recently found an app that I installed that captures a copy of all my txt messages and backs them up on my gmail account. It is simply called SMS back up. I will be taking my phone back but, it’s nice to know that until I do, my text messages will not all be lost.

Hi, this was happening to me as well. I think it’s due to a build up of messages in the app. Although this shouldn’t be the case, I read somewhere that the ‘antivirus’ app causes this. I just uninstalled mine and will test a buildup of sms. Try it out.
