I have recently become a fan of reading books on the Amazon Kindle. On the other hand, Rod has been a longtime users. One feature he has been asking for since day one, is the ability to loan books. Finally Amazon has given him this feature. When you think about it, this feature makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately it is up to the Author if a book can be loaned or not.

Eligible Kindle books can be loaned once for a period of 14 days. The borrower does not need to own a Kindle — Kindle books can also be read using our free Kindle reading applications for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices. Not all books are lendable — it is up to the publisher or rights holder to determine which titles are eligible for lending. The lender will not be able to read the book during the loan period.

Amazon outlines the procedure to determine if a book can be loaned. They also have the instructions on how to loan and receive a loaned book. Hopefully the books availible to be loaned are not hard to come by.

That’s really cool. My girlfriend got me a Kindle for Christmas (mainly because when we recently moved we had to lug boxes and boxes of books up to the third floor of the new house :) ).

The one thing I disliked about the Kindle over a normal, paper, book was that if I want to try a new author to see if I like them I can just go and buy a second hand book for a couple of pound or go to the library and check one out. On the kindle you only get a small sample for free then have to pay full price for the book. I read a lot so this would work out really expensive (buying a lot of books that i may or may not enjoy), being able to loan one out for a couple of weeks would be perfect.

I am all about sharing books so I am happy to see this available. The rules suck but I guess that is the age we live in.
