TripIt

If you find yourself on the road more than a couple of times a year, you owe it to yourself to check out the latest versions of some really great applications that can help you keep track, stay on time, roll with changes and updates, and deal with delays and cancelations. A couple of months ago, I found myself in the Memphis airport, dealing with a MAJOR flight delay (and potential cancelation issue), and I was surrounded by people who stayed close because I had better information than even the Gate Agents. It’s great to stay in the know, and it doesn’t cost a lot to do so. And it sure adds a lot of peace of mind. Check out some of my favorite travel apps that have stood the test of time and trial by fire.

TripIt Adds Points and Network Tracking

If you have a hard time keeping up with your travel plans, TripIt is the perfect service for you. From certain email services (Gmail that I know of, but I am sure there are others), TripIt will automatically grab your email confirmations and create a trip, or update an existing record. It does a great job of de-duplicating records. In the latest versions for Android and iPhone, you can now also automatically track Airline/Hotel/Rental Car points. Additionally, you can see from mobile if members of your circle of traveling friends are close. TripIt is also the engine that can automatically feed other travel applications, such as Flight Track Pro and Flight Stats, so that you only have to import data into your travel network of apps one time and it get allocated automatically to all the apps. If you want to catch up on the incredible number of recent updates, check out blog.tripit.com.

Smartpark Keeps Track of Your Parking Meter

CAP201011222241

If you are like me, one of the things I most dislike is trying to park in a strange city. Unfortunately, it’s something I get stuck doing a lot. Smartpark is the application that I finally settled on to help me deal with this problem. It tracks your time, memorizes where you are, and will notify you with sufficient time to deal with the meter. It works just a well with parking garages too. Perhaps the best part of all is that it is free!

A parking genius! It remembers where you parked and when your meter will expire!
It even remembers altitude so you know which level you parked on.
It guides you to your car via compass, telling you how far you are!
Widget displays the time remaining on your meter, right on your home screen!
